Skin Tone Guide

To find out your colours, you’ll need to do the following (don’t worry it only takes 5 minutes). Once complete, scroll down to find the products that work for your skin tone. And they’re totally on trend for Autumn.

How To Find Your Colour Palette

STEP 1: Know Your Colours

The easiest way to discover your colours is with a humble white shirt. Place it under your neck.

  • If the white shirt makes your skin tone pop, you likely have warm-toned skin
  • If a light-pink shirt would work better, you likely have cool-toned skin
  • If you can’t tell the difference, read on

STEP 2: Your Skins Undertone

Shine a light over the veins on your wrist.

  • If your veins are green/yellow, you have a warm undertone
  • If your veins are blue/purple, you have a cool undertone
  • If you can’t tell the difference, you have a neutral undertone

STEP 3: Your Eye Colour

What colour are your eyes?

  • If your eyes are hazel, brown or amber, you will likely have warm colourings
  • If your eyes are blue, green or grey, you will likely have cool colourings

STEP 4: Your Hair Colour

Your colour tones can change according to your hair colour. But it’s usually dependent on your natural hair colour.

  • If your hair is a caramel brown, rich brown, red, auburn, strawberry blonde or honey blonde – you have warm undertones
  • If your hair is a white blonde, ashy blonde, ashy brown, grey or black – you have cool undertones

The Result

The majority of warm or cool features you have determines your colours. So if 3 or more of your features are 'warm', that is your skin's undertone. If you don’t have a majority, you likely have neutral-toned skin.

Your Colour Palette

Your undertones are the colours beneath your skin. The overall hue is then separated into three categories: warm, cool and neutral.

So, now you know your undertone. The next step is to work out what jewellery will look best on you.

Jewellery for Warm-Toned Skin

Warm undertones range from peach to yellow to golden. If you're warm-toned, then earthy and bright colours are your new best friend. Think yellow gold and rose gold. Make rubies, garnet and emeralds your go-to. Trust us, go for gold – it'll make you glow.

Metals: Yellow gold and rose gold.

Colours: Red gemstones, such as ruby and garnet, or green gemstones like emerald.

Jewellery for Cool-Toned Skin

Cool undertones include bluish and pink hues under the skin. If you have cool-toned skin, consider wearing these:

Metals: Silver, Platinum and White Gold.

Colours: Purples, blues and pinks will look great on you. Think amethyst, aquamarines or pink sapphires.

Jewellery for Neutral Skin Tones

If you have neutral undertones, it means the colours under your skin are similar to your natural skin colour so you can go for a mix and match of all the colours. We're talking yellow gold, icy turquoise, rose-gold, silvers and emerald greens all at your fingertips. The best bit? Mixing metals is bang on trend this autumn, so why not intertwine bold yellow gold with striking silver, sparkly Check out our How To Wear Gold and Silver Jewellery Together blog for tips on mixing and matching your metals.

Understanding Your Colours FAQ

Choosing jewellery that suits your skin tone elevates any outfit. Metals and stones can look different when worn with different skin tones because of different contrasts, and choosing the right colours for you can make or break an outfit. For example, gold jewellery can appear warmer against warm-toned skin.

Once you've chosen the right colours for you, feel confident that your jewellery will complement your outfit.

Gold can sometimes make pale skin tones appear warmer in tones, but it really depends on your undertones.

There are different types of gold: such as the typical yellow gold and white gold. But gold can differ in hue depending on its karat weight. For example, 24-carat gold is a darker hue than 18 or 14-carat gold which is lighter and will likely suit pale skin more.

For those with cool undertones, we recommend white gold instead of the classic yellow gold. It’ll likely be a lot more flattering.

Ultimately, your jewellery is your own choice to make. That’s what makes jewellery so personal. Accessorising to suit your skin tone brings out your complexion and will complement lots of outfits, but you can still wear whatever you want. There are no rules here.

Those with cool skin tones (pink or blue undertones) look best in silver, platinum or white gold, while those with warm skin tones (yellow or olive undertones) look best in yellow gold or rose gold.
