9 JUNE 2023 - H.SAMUEL WRITER
Things are finally heating up. The sun is out, hats are on, your holiday is quickly approaching, and life has just got that little bit better.
Our favourite thing about summer? The fashion. It becomes more playful as bold and bright colours make waves. And the jewellery is no different. We see necklaces injected with colour, layers of gold with pops of pink gemstones, earrings made of bright blue enamel and a clash of colours you don’t expect to see.
It’s no surprise that the warm weather brings in a splash of coloured jewellery. The Pantone Colour Institute says that this season’s colours show a desire for self-expression, a fearless attitude and an overall vibe for vibrance. What does that mean? Well, there’s a lot of bright colours – iced mango, cherry tomato red, pink cosmos, and warm yellow. A cocktail of colours we can get behind.
There’re a few core colours. They’re ultra calming and are being used more as a base. Our fav? Oyster mushroom. It’s a silver toned colour. So, for the cool toned people out there: silver or white gold jewellery is TOTALLY on trend. Lucky you.
Take our blog as a guide to show you which jewellery colours you should be wearing this Summer, according to your skin tone. We want to make sure the jewellery you choose makes you glow (even more than you already do).
If you’re not sure of your skin's undertones or want to discover your colours, check out our Autumn colour palette blog. It’s a four-step guide on the a – z of undertones, and will help you to determine if you’re warm toned, cool toned, or neutral.
And don’t worry, it’ll only take you five mins.
Summer Jewellery for cool-toned skin
If you’ve got blueish and pink hues under your skin, it means your cool toned. This means tones like purple, shades of pink and blue will work wonderfully for you.
This season the complimentary cool-toned colours we’re crushing on are sky blue, sleek silver, and shiny black. Bonus points for mixing them all.
Like Pantone said, silver tones are really having their moment. If you do have cool-toned skin, anything silver toned should be your metal of choice. This can be white-gold, platinum or sterling silver, all depending on your budget and how you like to wear your jewellery.
The hottest (or coolest) cool-toned bits?
We’re crushing on chunky silver pieces. We’re talking: thick hoops and huggies, chunky chain necklaces and layers of silver toned rings. Preferably all worn together.
We simply adore these huggies from Ania Haie. They’re crafted in a 14ct Sterling Silver and give off so much glamour. To get into the summer state-of-mind, add these White Gold Purple Amethyst & Diamond Earrings into your ear stack. Trust us your cool colourings will thrive.
A cool toned timepiece? Sekonda’s Crystal Pink Mother of Pearl Watch. It’s got the most beautiful pink toned mother of pearl dial that contrasts and compliments the silver toned bracelet. Beyond it’s beauty, it’s a durable design crafted from stainless steel and water resistant up to 50 metres.
Our top tip for those with cool colourings? Side with silver. Enhance your complexion and embrace the hottest jewellery trend of layering up your silver pieces.
Summer Jewellery for warm-toned skin
These are our sunny selections for warm-toned skin this Summer.
If this is you, you’ll likely have golden, peach and yellow tints. Make yellow gold your base and become well-acquainted with bold, bright and earthy coloured gemstones, watches and jewellery.
We’re forecasting a Summer of burnt oranges, rich reds, pops of hot pink and so much yellow gold. Luckily, they’re all trending, and we just know, it’ll make your skin glow.
Orange is really having its moment in the fashion world. And this G-shock timepiece is testament to the rise of the sunset tone. It’s a retro inspired watch, with a sporty aesthetic. It’s waterproof to 200 metres so you can wear it in the sea, surf and shower. Or as we like to say, from the beach to the bar.
We think it would look oh-so cool paired with yellow gold bracelets and bangles and a neckmess of stacked necklaces. This Silver 18ct Gold Vermeil Blue Enamel Necklace is a good place to start.
If you’re after a timepiece that’s a touch more elegant, go for Michael Kors Runway Rose watch. It’s a jewel-meets-watch kind of piece, with a warm rose gold band and a hot pink face. What more can you ask for?
Remember: For jewellery that flatters your warm undertones, our hottest tip is to sport yellow gold jewellery.
Summer Jewellery for Neutral-Tones
For those of you with neutral undertones: the tones under your skin will be very, very similar to your skin’s actual colour.
This means you can really get adventurous with the coloured jewellery you wear. Anything will work. You can mix and match every metal colour.
PDPaola still know how to do jewellery for neutral skin tones. Simply put, they nail it. Its jewellery perfectly balances warm gold with cool coloured gemstones. We’re loving the 18ct Gold Plated Zirconia Ring Size. It’s delicate in its design, but bold enough to catch any onlooker’s attention. Ring ring: your dream stack is calling.
Another favourite? Ania Haie 14ct Gold Plated Red Enamel Hoops. Or for something that’ll steal the spotlight, go for our new in Sterling Silver Pink Enamel Bamboo Hoops. They’re funky, daring and so much fun.
For those of you with neutral tones, we think you should mix you’re metals. It’s totally on trend and it’ll do wonders for your complexion.
