05 OCTOBER 2021 | EDITOR - H. SAMUEL
Is it crazy to start thinking about the new year? We don't think so. We hate to break it to you, but there are under 80 days until Christmas, which means there are only a few more days than that until 2022. Yes, really. Being in fashion, that got us thinking about new jewellery trends for the coming new year. Ever since the pandemic started and we've been dialling in remotely we’ve seen a rise in jewellery sales. Specifically, people are buying fine jewellery that's great for wearing every day. The idea being that people want to elevate their more casual WFH looks with Zoom-friendly, statement necklaces, earrings, and rings.
So, following the Y2K-inspired pieces of 2021, we look to Le Vian to find out what’s in-store for fine jewellery in 2022 – and as guardians of the infamous Koh-i-Noor diamond (found in the Crown Jewels) we figured its trend book was a good place to start. From statement and splendour to pretty colour stories and some very cool modern cocktail rings, a look book documents what the experts at Le Vian predict is next year’s best bling trends. Ahead are our five favourites, featuring the beloved trademarked Chocolate Diamonds that everyone is talking about.
All Hands On Deco: Statement Stacking
Although the world might have stood still for the past 18 months, the minds at Le Vian have continued to wander, creating plenty of bejewelled inspirations that satisfy our wanderlust. It’s all about getting noticed as the post-pandemic return to the Roaring Twenties continues, so it’s unsurprising that big, bold and eye-catching rings have made their way into our jewellery boxes again. After all, following more than a year of staying inside, there is no better time to make a bold fashion statement, with big stones and lots of colour lending a distinct ‘20s flavour – the only thing missing is a cocktail to match. The return of statement cocktail rings looks best stacked and piled – expect to play dress up with cloud-like opals framed by strawberry gold, whilst sweet vanilla and deliciously decadent chocolate diamonds offer a hushed drama that makes the everyday extraordinary.
More Is More: Layering
Carrying on the above theme, necklaces continue to the get the stacking treatment — we’ve seen the layered look take off in 2021, and according to Le Vian, it’s set to remain a major style statement for 2022. Once is nice, twice is better but three or more is the charm, from ropes of diamonds to mixing metals, it’s all about multiples, especially when it comes to fine jewellery (just ask the likes of Ariana Grande, Jennifer Garner and Camila Cabello – who are all #layerstackstyle pros).
Confectionery Corner: Chocolate Diamonds
Chocolate. Just typing the word makes us crave the endorphin-boosting sweet treat. But for celebrities and fashion aficionados alike, ‘chocolate’ is synonymous with something far more luxurious, namely, the rare and coveted Chocolate Diamonds that J. Lo, Rihanna, and Chrissy Teigen—among many others—are no strangers to wearing. The celeb-loved gemstone has been a favourite since the early aughts and leads the way in the coloured stone trend that’s set to continue well into 2022. Together with raspberry rhodolite, strawberry gold, peach morganite and sweet sapphire, we’re like a kid in candy shop when it comes to these special stones, because just like a chocolate bar, it’s hard to have just one.
Pastel Power: Sunrise
If there’s one thing we can all agree on is that we’re ready for a good old-fashioned knees-up. A champagne flowing, arms-around-each-other, dressed-up-to-the-nines party to celebrate our freedom. And the more delicate shades of the rainbow are happy to oblige, with larger-than-life pieces that put the fun into fine jewellery. Moving on from the neon brights that dominated 2021, the new year will put muted shades in the spotlight, with precious gemstones joining the line-up. Whether you’re going for the celebrity-favourite blush pinks or softer-hued wedding jewellery, you’re in luck. Pinks, pastels and candy colours are in for 2022, with peach morganite, nude diamonds and strawberry gold high on our wish list.
