She’s got all the hacks for the perfect stack and a style to make you smile. Jewellery writer, Ellen Madden started with Signet Jewelers in the summer of 2022. She is a trained journalist, fashion writer and lover of all jewellery (especially gold, chunky pieces). Ellen also writes copy for social media, emails and in-store signage.

How Long Have You Worked In The Jewellery Industry?

I’ve worked in the accessories and fashion industry since 2019. I started writing about jewellery this year. I’ve always had a fascination and appetite for jewellery. I remember being a little girl trying to convince my mum to take me to get my ears pierced so I could wear ruby red earrings. Whilst I haven’t worked in the jewellery writing industry for a long time, my passion for jewellery has been alive for as long as I can remember.

 What Is Your Favourite Style Of Jewellery?

Chunky gold jewellery. I just love it and am constantly on the hunt for anything to complement my collection. There’s been a huge shift from silver to gold jewellery in the past couple of years and we’re starting to see chunky silver jewellery on the rise. I think this look is so cool and contemporary but I’m certain I’ll stay loyal to team gold.

How Did You Get Into Writing About Jewellery?

I’ve always dreamt of a career in fashion journalism – whether that’s writing about runway or retail. Jewellery brings every look (high-end or high street) to life. It compliments and completes every style and speaks to the personality of the wearer. I studied journalism at university and ended up doing on an internship with an Australian retail brand writing about accessories, beauty, and women’s and men’s fashion. In 2022, I moved to the UK, assisted as a fashion stylist and realised I wanted to pursue a career in fashion/jewellery writing.

What Are Your Favourite Jewellery Brands?

I have so many. I love Cartier watches and have always had my eye on a Cartier tank. I just love its watches – so chic and classic. I also love PDPaola, Ania Haie and Gucci.

What Is The Most Interesting Thing You Have Learned About Jewellery Since Writing For Our Jewellery Blog?

I learnt that diamonds are mapped to find the finished diamond that promises the brightest light or sparkle that dances around every room. After a lot of training in diamonds, and learning about the 4 C’s I came across this nugget of information. It just makes me realise how special a diamond really is.

If You Could Only Wear One Piece Of Jewellery For The Rest Of Your Life, What Would You Choose?

When I turned 21 my parents bought me a little gold watch. Every time I look down at my wrist it reminds me of home and my family - it’s just so special to me.
