WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY?
Traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday in August, the idea of Friendship Day was originally introduced to the world by founder of Hallmark Cards, Joyce C. Hall, in the early 1920’s. Many countries around the world were fast to adopt Friendship Day and celebrated this by exchanging greeting cards to mark the occasion. However, it wasn’t until 2011 that the United Nations officially marked the 30th July as International Friendship Day, although many countries still prefer to celebrate on the first Sunday of August!
With social media making us feel more connected than ever before, everyone has the chance to get involved and continue the celebrations this year, no matter where they are in the world.
